In today's article, we will lighten up a bit from the almost "textbook" facts about cannabis and discuss this topic from a different angle. We will first look at the biggest personalities in history unconditionally connected with cannabis, then we will imagine the most famous celebrities connected with marijuana, both past and present.

It is very likely that you have come across the name Roger Adams before. Of course, we have also mentioned him many times on our cannabis blog. Do you remember what the context was? If not, you can repeat that information in today's somewhat unconventional article. In addition to him, you will also learn about Raphael Mechoulam, Allyna Howlett, Snoop Dogg, Michael Phelps and other prominent figures of the world's scientific, musical, sports and political scenes, who in their own way have to hemp or very close to marijuana.

So let's get closer to the individual personalities!

Roger Adams - Discoverer of CBD and HHC

The first one we have to mention is Roger Adams. This American chemist made his mark as one of the most important researchers in the field of cannabis and marijuana. He became famous mainly because he was able to discover and even isolate the hemp cannabinoid CBD in 1940. Following this fact, he was able to isolate several other cannabinoids in later years. In 1944, he became the rightful discoverer hexahydrocannabinol aka HHC, which, however, has received more favor only in recent years. 

He also considered the fact that cannabis also contains psychoactive THC, but in his time scientists did not have such advanced technology to confirm this assumption. This was only proven less than 20 years later by Raphael Mechoulam, another very important scientist in the field of cannabis research.

Raphael Mechoulam or the one who discovered THC!

The Israeli scientist, who was born in Bulgaria, also made a very significant mark in the history of cannabis research. Like Adams, he lectured at various universities in his adulthood. Among his main achievements is the already mentioned isolation THC, which was the key proof of its undeniable existence. The theory of tetrahydrocannabinol already existed at that time, but no one was able to reliably prove it except Mechoulam thanks to a detailed chemical analysis. This phenomenal scientist is sometimes called "The godfather of cannabis research" in English.

Among other things, Raphael's research work also led to the discovery of the endocannabinoid system, which we call ECS for short. We mention this perfect system in many articles, as it is a key element for maintaining homeostasis, which is a condition of human existence itself. Thus, the ECS controls many important processes in the human body. However, he could not directly describe ECS in detail, only his successors, including Allyn Howlettová, managed to do that.

Allyn Howlett

It was an American scientist who managed to describe the theory of ECS functioning in detail. Thanks to the discovery of endocannabinoid receptors CB1 and CB2, which are an integral part of the ECS, it was finally possible to begin to find out how cannabinoids actually affect our organism. Following these breakthrough discoveries, we can now describe the effects of individual cannabinoids relatively well, although their functions on the human body are still being investigated in detail.

Celebrities from the world of marijuana

In the next part of today's article, we will mention several famous personalities who are associated with marijuana in a certain way. 

Bob Marley

Robert Nesta Marley a.k.a Bob Marley was a Jamaican singer, guitarist and songwriter. He had at least 11 children and his life revolved around marijuana. Marley was a member of Rastafarianism, a religious movement from Jamaica that combines elements from many religions. For example, its followers should not consume alcohol or meat. Besides is Rastafarianism famous for using marijuana. Marley himself said that marijuana is a sacred herb. 

Besides marijuana and music, he also loved football. He died in 1981 of complications from advanced stage cancer. His last words were: "Money can't buy life". His grave contains a soccer ball, a guitar, a marijuana puck, a ring from an Ethiopian prince and a Bible. Without a doubt, this is the greatest Jamaican personality of all time, whom almost all of us probably know.

Snoop Dogg

This American rapper, producer and actor is also known among the people as a lover of marijuana. In some interviews in the past, he stated that he smokes up to 81 joints a day. However, this information is not supported by anything. He even hired a man who is by his side just to prepare these joints for him. This employee is said to pay more than 1 million crowns a year!

Snoop Doggy Dogg, who was awarded a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, confided in his social networks in recent weeks that he intends to quit smoking. However, it was not about smoking marijuana, but about paid cooperation with a company producing smoke-free fireplaces. Great marketing move!

Other personalities

For example, in the USA, many famous personalities do not hide their previous or current use of cannabis. They are helped by favorable legislation and the very good availability of cannabis. As other names, we can therefore mention the former president Barack Obama, the highly successful swimmer Michael Phelps or the enormously popular singer and rapper Drake.
