CBD hemp and the endocannabinoid system: How do they affect our health?

The endocannabinoid system, abbreviated ECS, is one of the most important systems of living organisms and the human body without exception. It takes care of homeostasis, which is a vital function. ECS significantly affects not only how we feel during the day, but also how we perceive the effects of cannabis. CBD, HHC and other cannabinoids interact with it, which is the secret of their beneficial effects on our health.

The discovery of the ECS endocannabinoid system, which has since been ranked among the 12 most important functional systems of our body, is seen as one of the most significant scientific events of modern times. What makes ECS so necessary and unique? And how does it work in conjunction with cannabis products?

The endocannabinoid system is responsible for how the cannabinoids from cannabis interact with our body, thanks to which we can fully feel the effect that the plant cannabis and marijuana possesses. But not only that! The ECS is one of the main pillars of the proper functioning of homeostasis. This term refers to the constancy of the internal environment, which is absolutely essential for life as such. Regulation of physiological and cognitive processes ensures balance in our body so that everything works in harmony.

If we talk specifically, the endocannabinoid system can affect our mood, how we perceive pain, whether our memory works properly, or how we think. Furthermore, it takes care of the proper functioning of the immune system and, in addition, it can directly affect fertility, the course of pregnancy and the development of the organism in early and pubertal age. The ECS is also very important for us to cope with invasive stress. Also worth mentioning is the information that the ECS endocannabinoid system affects motor skills and the musculoskeletal system in general.

How about cannabidiol CBD, CBG, HHC and other cannabis elements directly interact with cannabinoid receptors in the human body? In today's article, we will try to explain to you the principle of operation of this unique system.

What is ECS

The endocannabinoid system, abbreviated ECS, is a complex cellular system that was discovered in the early 90s during research on tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). To date, it is still not fully understood, but we already know that it plays a very important role in the regulation of many functions and body processes. You don't necessarily need to use cannabis products, but your endocannabinoid system is always active. The ECS includes a dense network of cellular receptors and chemical processes that are mostly present in our brain, but can also be found in other parts of our body.

The endocannabinoid system is composed of three main components: endocannabinoids, enzymes, and cannabinoid receptors.

Endocannabinoids

Endogenous cannabinoids are molecules created by our body that are very similar to the cannabinoids found in the cannabis plant. The two main endocannabinoids identified by experts are: anandamide (AEA) and 2-arachidonoylglycerol. The structure of anandamide was isolated for the first time by Czech analytical chemist Lumir Ondřej Hanuš and by the American molecular pharmacologist William Anthony Devan in 1992. Translated, "anada" means "bliss" or "perfect happiness." Both endocannabinoids ensure the proper functioning of body functions in the brain, liver and lungs.

enzymes

Once the endocannabinoids have fulfilled their function, they are broken down. Cellular enzymes take care of the smooth process of decomposition. Two main enzymes have been discovered so far: fatty acid amide hydrolase, which breaks down AEA, and monoacylglycerol acid lipase, which cleaves 2-AG.

Endocannabinoid receptors

We distinguish two main receptors, which are called CB1 and CB2. They occur on the surface of cells in all the peripheries of our body. They bind endocannabinoids to each other, thereby activating the endocannabinoid system.

In short, the ECS endocannabinoid system can be described as a system of cell receptor activators.

How ECS works

All that remains here is to repeat the statement we made at the very beginning of this article. The endocannabinoid system is vital to every living organism. Our body, if it is healthy, can create the active substances responsible for the functioning of the ECS in a natural way. However, we can also supply them through substances contained in cannabis flowers. (CBD, CBG, HHC..)

We are talking about endocannabinoids, which bind to cannabinoid receptors in the body. They significantly affect our organism. Endocannabinoid receptors can be found in many organs, in the skin, but in the highest concentration they are found directly in the brain. However, we do not find them in the two areas of the brain affecting cardiovascular and respiratory function. With alternative medicines with cannabinoids, there is therefore no risk of developing respiratory and cardiovascular diseases, which can be a side effect of many pharmaceutical preparations

To date, more than 10 studies dealing with ECS have been produced. For example, the Institute of Molecular Psychiatry deserves attention The University of Bonn published a study in 2012, according to which, by activating the endocannabinoid system in the brain, we can start a kind of cleansing process in which damaged and diseased cells are removed.

Phytocannabinoids obtained from hemp have a different chemical structure compared to endocannabinoids, but they have a similar effect on the human body, so it is possible to supplement the missing endocannabinoids produced naturally with hemp cannabinoids. It is a well-known fact that hemp products can have numerous therapeutic effects. Today, CBD is already commonly used for sleep, stress, anxiety and depression, pain, or to boost immunity and heart function.

We can regulate the level of endocannabinoids in our body ourselves, for example by increasing the intake of omega essential fatty acids (omega 3 and 6), which are found in abundance in, for example, hemp oil and hemp seed.

Specific ECS functions

To date, scientists have not yet determined the exact functions of the endocannabinoid system, but they attribute it to influencing the following processes:

  • Appetite
  • metabolism
  • Immune system
  • Mood
  • Memory
  • Sleep
  • Cardiovascular system
  • Muscle and bone growth
  • Reproductive system
  • Liver, nerve and skin function

The above functions contribute to the homeostasis of the internal environment. So how exactly does it work? If, for example, you get injured or get a fever, the stability of your internal environment will be disturbed. The endocannabinoid system kicks in and returns your body to its original sense of well-being and stability, which is the primary function of the ECS.

Studies of the endocannabinoid system are ongoing. Thanks to this, more and more important information about this perfectly functioning system will appear. From the findings so far, it is already clear that the regular use of hemp products contributes to keeping your organism in balance. Regular use of cannabinoids therefore it can strengthen (not only) your immune system.

Conclusion

Well, that's all for today, our dear hemp growers. We strongly believe that the time you invested in reading this article was not wasted. Thank you for your attention and we look forward to seeing you in the next edition of the cannabinoids guide on our cannabis blog. Sunshine in the soul, may it be successful!
