Last week, a report appeared in the foreign media about the content of xylazine in disposable vape pens in the UK, from several selling companies. Xylazine, also known as the "zombie drug", is originally a sedative used to put large animals, such as cows or horses, to sleep. However, even a small dose can be fatal for humans. Xylazine in the United Kingdom

Due to the fentanyl scandal in the USA, all other countries are on their guard against similar substances. In Great Britain there has already been at least one death caused by the substance xylazine. That is why the British government is trying to take immediate action. 

Dr. Catoline Copeland reports that some products containing xylazine have been discovered and secured on the market. Specifically, in addition to vape pens, these were, for example, drugs such as codeine, diazepam or valium, which contained the already mentioned dangerous substance. All toxicology laboratories in the United Kingdom immediately became interested in this problem. 

Even though only a few types of vape pens were seized and a few dozen products sold, even these numbers alarmed experts. This substance has been found, among others, only in illegal vape pens with content THC. Therefore, toxicologists appeal to users not to use similar, unverified, and especially illegally sold products at all. 

The British Advisory Council on the Misuse of Drugs has recommended that xylazine be classified as a Class C drug, putting it on the same level as paradisiacal gas, benzodiazepines or anabolic steroids. Users would face 2 years in prison, persons connected with the distribution even up to 14 years. 

What can xylazine cause?

Now we will focus on the side effects that are associated with the use of such a dangerous sedative:

• Slow heart rate
• Difficulty breathing
• Blood pressure dangerously low
• Possibility of infection
• Addiction, severe withdrawal symptoms, death

It is not yet certain to what level of side effects inhalation of this substance can lead to. Several teenagers received medical attention after use. The market for illegal substances is constantly expanding, and the public should really avoid such products.

On the illegal market, xylazine appears alongside heroin or fentanyl, so it is absolutely clear how dangerous a substance it is.
