What's more than CBD? Broad spectrum CBD and accompanying effect!
Suspiciously cheap CBD looks very tempting at first glance. Who doesn't want to save some money, right? However, low-quality CBD products that are made from isolated cannabidiol lack the presence of other equally important cannabinoids. The effects of such a product are therefore negligible compared to broad-spectrum CBD oil. The accompanying effect simply works wonders!
Right at the beginning, we will explain what the term "entourage" effect means. The Czech translation is accompanying effect. This is the mechanism by which cannabinoids work synergistically with each other, along with a number of other hemp compounds found naturally in the CBD hemp plant. These are terpenes, flavonoids and hemp resin. This phenomenon cannot be observed with hemp products containing only a single isolated cannabinoid.
So what are the main benefits of the accompanying effect? This is also the answer to the question: Why buy broad spectrum CBD oil, not drops made from isolate? Let's discuss this issue in more detail together.
What is the side effect?
The accompanying effect is not the exclusive dominant of broad-spectrum cannabis products. The so-called "entourage" effect is, generally speaking, a term that describes the synergistic effect of various substances contained in plants or medicines. In the case of cannabis, it is a combination of cannabinoids, terpenes and other chemical compounds that together act on the endocannabinoid system in the human body. The ECS, as we call the endocannabinoid system, is responsible for regulating physiological functions and has a significant effect on the immune system, nerve endings (how we experience pain) and anti-inflammatory capabilities.
The term side effect was first described in the late 90s by the famous Rafael Mechuolam, the discoverer of THC, and by Shimon Ben-Shabat and a group of other Israeli researchers. The discovery of the ability of cannabinoids to support and complement each other led to advances in extraction and formulation strategies. While the term side effect is primarily used in the herbal medicine industry, this phenomenon is believed to occur in a wide variety of herbal medicines, not exclusively in cannabis.
During the research, it was further established that the medicinal effects of cannabis and the therapeutic benefits it possesses are largely due to an accompanying effect that gives plant substances, which it calls cannabinoids, the ability to effectively act on a wide range of diseases.
Advantages of the "entourage" effect
Thanks to the accompanying effect, it turns out that the combination of different substances in cannabis can have stronger and more complex therapeutic effects than just using the individual components alone. For example, combining the cannabinoid THC with other substances such as CBD can reduce the unwanted side effects of THC, which include anxiety and paranoia. Terpenes in cannabis, they can also contribute to deep relaxation and pain relief.
Accompanying effect and CBD hemp
The accompanying effect is becoming more and more important in the field of medicine, especially in the field of medical cannabis and its derivatives. Expert studies indicate that the combination of different cannabinoids and terpenes can be effective in the treatment of various types of diseases, such as chronic pain, epilepsy, reduced immunity, depression or anxiety. Taking advantage of the side effect can also help minimize the need to take higher doses of medication, greatly reducing the risk of potential side effects.
Medicinal effects of cannabinoids
There may be rare cases where only one cannabinoid (isolate) is needed, but cannabinoids work best when they are well together, providing an accompanying effect. A terpene called pinene along with CBD may moderate some of the adverse effects of THC on short-term memory. Hemp products with a broad spectrum of cannabinoids are also ideal for minimizing the negative effects of cancer chemotherapy, as they are thought to work synergistically to enhance the anti-tumor properties of the ECS. As already mentioned, the appropriate combination of cannabinoids and terpenes can improve the intensity of the effects of the cannabis product as an alternative pain reliever and enhance its anti-inflammatory effects.
CBD, THC and other substances in cannabis
About how cannabinoids, terpenes and flavonoids cooperate together (or separately) when they enter the human body, much remains to be discovered. However, there are some facts that we already know today. You should keep these in mind when dosing cannabinoids.
1. Hemp cannabinoids they have different effects at different doses, meaning that these substances provide biphasic effects. For example, a low dose of THC can treat anxiety, while a higher dose can cause it! CBD can have energizing effects at a low dosage, but at the same time also significant dampening effects when using a high amount of CBD. Cannabigerol aka CBG is an effective antiemetic in lower doses, but can cause nausea in excessive doses.
2. Cannabinoids, terpenes and flavonoids interact to give different types of cannabis different effects. A combination of CBD, CBG, THCV and humulene could be great for weight and blood glucose control. While a combination of low doses of THC, CBD, linalool and myrcene could be the perfect choice for treating anxiety.
Tips for using the accompanying effect
The best way to get the most out of the side effect is to use cannabis products that contain a wide variety of cannabinoids and terpenes. Therefore, full-spectrum hemp oil, tinctures and hemp varieties (or strains) in the raw state (i.e. flower) are ideal, which very often have characteristic cannabinoid and terpene profiles that can be used in a wide variety of ways - for example to make your own hemp oil or tea.
What to try next?
- Consuming CBD products along with food containing plenty of healthy fats increases the rate of absorption.
- A wide variety of consumption methods, including tinctures and broad-spectrum oils, vaping, topical preparations and edibles.
- Maintaining a healthy diet and exercise. These are natural ways to increase the production of cannabinoids in the human body.
