What are the effects of the psychoactive cannabinoids THC and THCV in cannabis?
Feelings of complete relaxation and peace of mind. These are some of the most common effects described after taking the psychoactive components of cannabis known as THC and THCV. Thanks to the euphoric intoxication, you can experience delightful moments. However, too frequent consumption of these substances can cause changes in the psyche, so you should be careful with long-term use.
Psychoactive cannabinoids are substances that affect the central nervous system and can cause positive and negative psychotropic effects, such as euphoria, change in sensory perception, appetite, but also general restlessness or fatigue. On our cannabis blog, we often mention that in hemp contains over 100 different cannabinoids. However, only some of them have intoxicating effects. Which cannabinoids are they and what exactly can we expect from them?
What is THC
The most well-known psychoactive cannabinoid is undoubtedly tetrahydrocannabinol aka THC, which is the main psychotropic component of the cannabis plant, therefore responsible for most of the effects associated with the use of marijuana. It very often causes a strong euphoric effect and at the same time induces an altered state of consciousness. In addition, it also has tremendous therapeutic potential.
The psychoactive cannabinoid THC
Among the most sought-after psychoactive effects produced by tetrahydrocannabinol is the aforementioned feeling of euphoria, which very often comes after only a few minutes. In addition, it includes increased comfort, relaxation and feelings of indescribable happiness. These feelings can be so strong and intense that they become the driving force for continued use of this psychoactive cannabinoid.
Furthermore, a different perception of time and space is observed, but do not be mistaken - these are not hallucinations, but rather a conscious heightened perception of the surroundings, colors and sounds. This is often accompanied by an influx of creativity and thinking about things that would often have no place in practical life. A pleasant bonus at the end of the "high" state can be an increased appetite for food consumption, which is why THC is often used for problems with loss of appetite and weight loss. However, those who are trying to lose a few kilos will certainly not appreciate this bonus.
However, I need to add that psychoactive substances of the THC type and THCV in overdose can also cause a negative experience, which we call a bad trip, which can include increased anxiety, panic, paranoia and thoughts that produce catastrophic scenarios. The more regularly substances are used, the more the risk of a potential negative effect in this form increases.
What is THCV
You have most likely never heard of THCV, yet it is found in the natural form of the cannabis plant. It probably won't surprise anyone that THCV is very similar in structure to THC. After all, it is quite obvious from the name itself. However, its properties are somewhat different, so it definitely cannot be said that it is the same substance as THC. But as we mentioned in the introduction, both of these cannabinoids are strongly psychoactive.
THCV as a psychoactive cannabinoid
Indeed, the most interesting effect of THCV can be considered primarily its ability to suppress the appetite. In the future, products with THCV could therefore be used, for example, as a means of losing weight (not only) for people suffering from excess weight. What is also very remarkable is that in lower doses it can increase energy and suppress fatigue, therefore it can be classified as a stimulant to some extent.
Although research into THCV is still in its early stages, some studies suggest that this cannabinoid from cannabis could be effective in the treatment of schizophrenia and other psychiatric conditions, for example. In addition, it has the ability to help in quitting hard drug addiction.
“I find that THCV gives me a phenomenal boost of energy. I tried it through several different products. I love THCV and wish it was available in more products.”
