CBD as an anti-inflammatory cannabinoid for the skin: Will it solve acne?
Acne is a common skin condition that affects teenagers and sometimes adults. The beginning of everything is the excessive production of sebum and the clogging of the pores, which creates an ideal environment for the multiplication of bacteria. Acne is usually treated with cosmetics, retinoid creams, antibiotics and, in severe cases, isotretinoin. However, these substances can have side effects and can lead to antibiotic resistance.
Young people are therefore looking for an alternative and trying natural hemp products containing cannabidiol. It has anti-inflammatory properties and according to user experience, it seems to help with acne as well. Studies show that CBD, along with other substances from hemp, actually reduces inflammatory foci and improves the condition of the skin.
A bit of science: How could CBD work on the skin?
Cannabidiol is a non-psychoactive component of cannabis that is of interest to scientists for its anti-inflammatory and immunomodulating properties. CBD is also proving to be a promising substance for the treatment of pimples. It reduces inflammation and the production of cytokines responsible for acne by modulating the immune system. It blocks the activation of TRPV1 and JAK/STAT receptors, thereby suppressing inflammatory reactions.
Studies confirm that cannabidiol reduces sebum production, inflammation and the activity of Propionibacterium acnes bacteria, which are the main culprits of acne. CBD is generally safe and has a low risk of side effects. However, more research is needed to prove its effectiveness and safety for acne treatment.
Researchers have investigated the effect of CBD and other components of cannabis on acne. One study found that hemp seed extracts reduced skin inflammation and redness. The study was conducted on volunteers who applied a cream with 2% hemp seed extract to their face twice a day for 12 weeks. They did not experience any allergic reactions or irritation.
Untreated acne can leave psychological consequences
Acne is not only an unpleasant manifestation of raging hormones during adolescence, but it can also leave scars on the skin and lead to psychological problems. It affects up to 85% of teenagers, who at this age have fragile self-esteem and place emphasis on appearance. Acne clearly negatively impairs their social life.
The treatment of acne is lengthy and the results do not appear until months later. If the treatment is chosen incorrectly, the condition can worsen. Fortunately for women, the gynecologist can prescribe contraception to alleviate androgenic symptoms, thus also to suppress acne.
Cosmetic products with CBD oil complement daily skin care
CBD oil became a hit in cosmetics. It can be found in creams, serums, oils, and even in deodorants and toothpastes. It's no surprise that this cannabinoid takes pride of place in our daily skincare routine. Users confirm that hemp products improve their skin.
CBD drops they have antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects, regulate the production of sebum and prevent keratinization of skin cells (so-called keratinization). Manufacturers recommend cannabidiol cosmetics for people with mild to moderate inflammatory acne. At the same time, it is suitable for people who are allergic to the ingredients in common acne medicines, especially retinol or benzoyl peroxide.
