The effect of medicinal cannabis on the side effects of chemotherapy
There are several studies and evidence suggesting that some of the cannabinoids found in cannabis may have certain healing properties and help some patients manage the symptoms associated with cancer and its treatment. However, to date, no demonstrable effects have been discovered to prove that cannabis has the potential to completely cure cancer. However, in the US, cannabinoid drugs are still used in treatment. How?
As reported by The ASCO Post website, in 2018 a survey was conducted in the USA, during which it was found that out of 400 oncologists (doctors who treat cancer) surveyed, a total of 80% of them discuss the topic of using medical cannabis in the treatment of cancer with their patients in the office. Nevertheless, cannabis is recommended by only 50% of the oncologists surveyed. Why is it? Perhaps by the older generation of doctors who are still used to getting information about cancer treatment from the professional publications of the past and alleviating the symptoms of chemotherapy with CBD is still too controversial a way to relieve patients for many of them.
Supportive treatment for cancer & cannabis
If you or someone close to you has not been through cancer, you probably have no idea that chemotherapy itself also brings with it a high number of side effects. However, for years cannabis has held the role of a supportive potential healer, meaning that it may have an effect on suppressing some of the symptoms associated with cancer, as well as the side effects of treatment. From the above, it is clear that cannabis can still work "only" as a supportive cancer treatment, not a comprehensive one. Therefore, cannabis has no demonstrable effect on the actual healing of cancer patients.

Cannabis Medicines & Cancer Treatments
There are chemically developed drugs based on marijuana compounds that have been approved for medical use in the US and are officially administered in cancer treatment. The task of these drugs is precisely to mitigate the above-mentioned side effects in the treatment of cancer. What specific drugs are these?
Dronabinol
It is a drug containing delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and is approved by the US Food and Drug Administration for the treatment of nausea and vomiting caused by cancer chemotherapy, including several other negative effects of the treatment, such as weight loss, decreased appetite. It is also given to HIV patients for the same reasons.
Nabilone
It is a synthetic cannabinoid that can have similar effects to THC for cancer patients. Nabilone is taken by mouth to treat nausea and vomiting caused by cancer chemotherapy if other drugs have not helped.
Nabiximols
This drug is currently being tested in clinical trials in the US and is therefore not yet officially approved. It is an oral spray composed of THC and CBD. Its potential may be in the treatment of pain associated with cancer, muscle spasms or pain from multiple sclerosis.
