The big overview of cannabinoids part 1.: What are the effects of cannabichromenes and cannabicyclols?
There are more than 100 cannabinoids discovered so far in a single cannabis plant. Other organic substances are gradually increasing, as the research activity regarding the composition of cannabis is still ongoing. We have therefore compiled a comprehensive overview of individual cannabis components, but it is too comprehensive to publish in a single blog article. In Part 1 of our large atlas of cannabinoids, we will describe cannabichromenes and cannabicyclols.
What are cannabinoids?
Before you take a closer look at our overview of cannabinoids, let's quickly explain their role in the human body and in the cannabis plant itself. Cannabinoids are chemical compounds found naturally in the cannabis plant. Due to their ability to stimulate neuroreceptors endocannabinoid system (ECS) they have a beneficial effect on our mood and mental state, but also on good health, which is conditioned by the maintenance of homeostasis, which is the responsibility of the ECS.
The human body produces so-called endocannabinoids within the ECS. These play an important role in many bodily functions; including sleep and the immune system. In case of insufficient production in a natural way, they can be replenished with help phytocannabinoids found in cannabis. In this way, people of all age groups can simultaneously compensate for the lack of endocannabinoids in the human body and thus treat many health and psychological problems.
“The endocannabinoid system, named after the cannabis plant that led to its discovery, is quite possibly the most important body system responsible for building and subsequently maintaining human health. Endocannabinoids and their receptors are found throughout the body: in the brain, organs, connective tissues, glands and also in immune cells. In each tissue, the endocannabinoid system performs different tasks, but the goal is always the same: homeostasis, i.e. maintaining a stable internal environment despite fluctuations in the external environment.

Cannabichromenes
Name | Abbreviation | Description |
---|---|---|
Cannabichromene | CBC | Cannabinoid present in cannabis, without psychoactive effects. |
Cannabichromenic acid | CBCA | The precursor form of cannabichromene present in the cannabis plant. |
Cannabichromevarin | CBCV | A variant of cannabichromene with a different structure. |
Cannabichromevaric acid | CBCVA | The precursor form of cannabichromevarin in the cannabis plant. |
What are cannabichromenes?
Cannabichromenes do not have psychoactive effects. However, according to scientists, they can have strong antibacterial effects, act as analgesics and effectively combat pain. They also help with depression and as a prevention of intestinal diseases, therefore in our overview cannabinoids cannot be missing.
Effects of the cannabinoid CBC
The main protagonist of cannabichromenes is the cannabinoid CBC, which was discovered more than 50 years ago. Therefore, its investigation lasted long enough for it to be possible to become properly acquainted with its positive effects on the organism.
These include, for example:
- maintaining healthy brain function and preventing, for example, Alzheimer's disease
- treatment of acne and other skin diseases
- help in the treatment of depression
- possible stopping of the proliferation of cancerous cells (after the cannabinoid CBG, it is the second most effective anti-cancer protagonist in this regard)
- and many other positive effects.
Cannabicyclols
Name | Abbreviation | Description |
---|---|---|
Cannabicyclol (CBL) | CBL | A cannabinoid present in cannabis whose structure contains a ring structure (cyclo) |
Cannabicyclic acid (CBLA) | CBLA | A precursor form of cannabicyclol present in the cannabis plant. |
Cannabicyclovarin (CBLV) | CBLV | A variant of cannabicyclol with a different structure. |
What are cannabicyclols?
Even cannabicyclols are not psychoactive cannabinoids, therefore their effects can be used in the treatment of mental illnesses for intense relaxation effects. However, these are rare cannabinoids that only appear when the aforementioned cannabichromene is oxidized. The oxidation process takes place under the influence of light or heat, but most often it is an artificially induced reaction in laboratory conditions. However, this does not affect its positive properties in any way, it only accelerates the oxidation itself.
Effects of the cannabinoid CBL
This cannabicyclol is one of the least researched cannabinoids ever, which means that we still cannot say what its effects or specific medicinal properties might be at this point. However, it is believed that since CBL is a derivative of our previous cannabinoid CBC, it should not have any psychoactive effects on the organism. Due to its uniqueness, it earns a place of honor in our overview of cannabinoids in cannabis.
