THCPO: New on the hemp products market!

The cannabis industry is constantly evolving and scientists are constantly discovering new cannabinoids. On the basis of these discoveries, completely new derivatives are also created, as in the case of THCPO. What is this cannabis derivative and what can it offer its users?

This brand new to the market represents the imaginary "future" of the cannabis industry. How to best characterize this cannabis derivative? How similar is it to THC and how is it actually produced? We will answer all these questions in the following paragraphs. Let's get down to it!

What is THCPO?

As the name suggests, this cannabinoid is the most similar THCP, from which it directly arises. THCP was discovered by Italian scientists in 2019. Already two years later, they managed to add an acetyl group "O" that forms the resulting THCPO. The acylation process was used for this step. THCPO is classified as a semi-synthetic cannabinoid. This is because the precursor of this substance, THCP, can be found in cannabis in a small concentration. However, we would look in vain for THCPO, anyway HHCPO, which is the most popular alternative to HHC.

This cannabinoid was first synthesized in 2021. It has the same side chain as THCP, i.e. with seven carbon atoms. This is two times more than classic THC, which has been on the list of addictive substances for a long time. It is because of the longer side chain and acetate group that THCPO appears to be the most potent cannabinoid currently on the market! Legislation is evolving dynamically, but these days it is a fully legal substance.

Let's focus straight away on how this cannabinoid works in the human body.

How does THCPO work?

Experienced and informed users already know that cannabinoids bind to our endocannabinoid receptors. THCP and THCPO use the most CB1 receptors in our brain. In comparison to delta-9-THC, THCP should have up to 33x more activity at CB1 receptors and up to 10x more activity at CB2 receptors. According to the findings so far, THCPO seems to interact with our endocannabinoid receptors even more actively and its psychoactive effects are stronger. There is speculation in the cannabis world that THCPO is up to 30 times stronger than delta-9-THC, but no substantiated research has yet been done. 

For this reason, it is usually found in hemp products in a concentration of around 10 to 20%. Assuming, of course, that it is a top-quality distillate. You can even come across products with 80% content from dubious sellers. There are two possibilities - either it is marketing, because no one checks the composition in the current situation, or there is a distillate of poor quality, which even at these percentages will not have the same effect as 10 to 20% of the first-class extract.

Effects of THCPO

From the information so far, it appears that THCPO will currently be the most potent cannabinoid that can be found on the market. This means that it can wave even with experienced users of cannabis. THCPO is definitely not recommended for beginners, who could fully experience the side effects listed below after a high dose. 

In connection with the effects of THCPO, there is usually talk of very strong euphoric feelings, relaxation and sleepiness. However, these effects are really very strong and all its users should be careful, as these effects can allegedly last up to an incredible 8 hours, which is several times longer than other cannabinoids. 

We must also note that this is a completely new substance and no major clinical study has yet been conducted, so we are only talking within the limits of the cannabinoid information and user experience found so far.

Side effects of THCPO

We probably won't present you with any news here, as the side effects of this cannabinoid observed so far are very similar to those we can observe with other cannabinoids:

• Dry mouth
• Anxiety
• Paranoia 
• Red eyes
• Drowsiness

As for any long-term effects, there is no conclusive data to determine them. In this case, we are moving in the level of pure speculation.

Products on the market

As for the possibilities of use, this cannabinoid does not differ from its "siblings". We can often come across cartridges, vape pens, but some sellers already offer THCPO flowers or, for example, hashish. It is important to always buy exclusively from verified sellers, as this is the only way you can be sure of the quality of your product. This cannabinoid is not really suitable for beginners, so all inexperienced researchers should be careful when exploring it.
