With their somewhat unexpected findings in a ground-breaking scientific study, Italian scientists have stimulated further research into THC-P and its possible effects on the human body. Nevertheless, the scientific community is still waiting for a more detailed scientific study that would investigate the long-term effects of this substance on the human organism. THC-P was discovered in 2019
THC-P is the big news. For the first time ever, the effects of the cannabinoid THC-P were described in a scientific paper published in 2019 (in the journal Nature). It was a UNIHEMP research project sponsored by the European Regional Development Fund. And his results were more than interesting.
The first research showed many surprising effects
It has been confirmed that the cannabinoid THC-P is up to 33 times more effective in the endocannabinoid system than the better-known THC. The researchers made this discovery thanks to an experiment using cultured cells, during which they investigated the interplay of THC-P with CB1 and CB2 receptors in the brain. During the investigation, they found that the new cannabinoid was present in much lower concentrations than THC in the studied strain of medical cannabis. Even so, THC-P showed much more pronounced activity compared to THC.
Further testing has shown that THC-P greatly mimics the effects of other cannabinoids when it comes to body temperature or pain. It is important to mention that this research only involved mice. We will have to wait for an in-depth scientific study on the relationship between the cannabinoid THC-P and the human body. In conclusion, studies conducted on mice have shown that THC-P has a longer half-life (2 to 3 days) than THC and is more effective in reducing pain and inflammation.
Pros and cons of THC-P
Already after the first research it is clear that cannabinoid THCP could have several different effects on the human body. Thanks to the effect of THC-P products on the endocannabinoid system, there is talk of changing auditory and visual perception or, for example, inducing euphoric feelings. According to studies, it can also affect the process of falling asleep.
Is THC-P legal?
Currently, THC-P is not included in the list of addictive or psychotropic substances in many countries of the world. This is also the case in the Czech Republic. Over time, the status of the cannabinoid THC-P can change rapidly, so it is necessary to monitor current legislation.
However, it is clear that although the use of THC-P products is not strictly prohibited by law, they should be handled with care. The long-term effects on the human organism have not yet been sufficiently investigated, so they still raise many different questions in scientific circles.
