Kratom and its nutritional value. You will be surprised!

It's no secret that nowadays more and more people are interested in a healthy and balanced diet, the functions of their body and its possible limits. In this article, we will therefore introduce you to kratom from a slightly different and somewhat unusual side! Does it have any calories? Does it also contain minerals? You will very likely be surprised!

Not much is known about kratom among the general public. The more educated part of society suspects that it is a kind of natural stimulant that appears on the market in the form of a green powder. But who among you knows what its nutritional values are? What is in its composition? Let's look at these and other questions together!

However, before we dive into the topic itself, it would be good to review what kratom actually is, as the last article about kratom was published on our cannabis blog some Friday ago. So what is it? Mitragyna speciosa? How are the leaves of this plant used? What potential advantages and disadvantages does it hide? Here we go!

What is kratom

Kratom is the name for a tree of tropical origin that is found mainly in Southeast Asia. The Latin name for this plant is Mitragyna speciosaIn Bali and Borneo, it has been used by the natives for several centuries primarily for its stimulating effects. When taking a high dose, however, it can have a completely opposite (sedative) effect.

There are two hidden in the leaves of this plant psychoactive ingredients, namely mytragynine and 7-hydromytragynine. The methods of application can be diverse. Indonesian residents pour hot water over the leaves and take substances in the form of tea. Smoking or crushing the leaves into powder as we know it is also popular in these places. The obtained powder is then mixed with any liquid (most often juice or water) and consumed as a drink. Another possible form that can be found on the market are capsules, which are again filled with crushed powder. You just have to swallow them and drink a sufficient amount of liquid.

However, the use of kratom is not without risk, so we do not recommend its use to anyone! We also do not sell it for end customer consumption under any circumstances! This should be kept in mind by anyone who decides to purchase kratom for any reason.

Effects of kratom and its types

The alkaloids mentioned above (mitragynine and 7-hydromitragynine) interact with opioid receptors in our brain. If we want to achieve a stimulating effect, we will use lower doses of green or white kratom. If we want to use its sedative effect, we reach for a higher dose of red kratom, which has a purely calming effect. If our goal were roughly the middle between these phenomena, we would look for gold powder that is a "mix" of red and white. We call that one kratom gold or golden kratom.

Side effects of kratom

It is appropriate to also mention the negative effects on our organism. Among them is addictiveness, where regular use can end in addiction. Thang, as kratom is also called in Indonesia, has a psychoactive effect and, in smaller doses, even euphoria. However, in excessive amounts, hallucinations or breathing difficulties may occur.

We've got the basic know-how covered, so let's move on to the essential questions that probably brought you to this article. But we still have to emphasize one thing. Kratom has not been extensively researched primarily for its nutritional value. Much of the research has focused on its effects, alkaloid composition and addictive potential. Since this is a purely natural product, the mentioned values may not always be XNUMX% correct. Of course, the purity of the product also plays a significant role.

The nutritional profile of kratom

One dose of kratom (in our case 2 g) contains:

  • Protein: 0,2 g
  • Carbohydrates: 1,5 g
  • Fats: > 0,1 g
  • Iron: 0,5 mg
  • Sodium: > 0,1 mg
  • Potassium: 18,5 mg
  • Calcium: 13,2 mg
  • Calories: 7,4 kcal

We are only talking about indicative numbers, which are used exclusively for education. These are not exactly given values for diet planning.

Vitamins and minerals

Unfortunately, there is no specific research on this topic that would express the exact composition of micronutrients (vitamins and minerals). According to previous research conducted on similar types of plants, kratom should probably contain minerals (potassium, magnesium, calcium), a smaller amount of vitamins (C and B2). Antioxidants in the form of flavonoids and polyphenols can even be found in the composition of Mitragyna speciosa - these are found, for example, in wine and have a positive effect on the human organism.

Kratom powder should generally be taken in small doses where the mentioned micronutrients do not cover the recommended daily dose.

Kratom and calories

As we have already said, Mitragyna speciosa powder also contains calories. This is approximately 7.4 kcal per 2g of powder. However, since the lowest recommended caloric intake is somewhere around 1500 kcal per day, we do not have to worry about this at all, even if we are on a diet. Calories in kratom occur in negligible amounts.

Does kratom contain carbohydrates?

Yes, it also contains carbohydrates. It is one of the indispensable macronutrients that our body absolutely needs for proper functioning. Most of the contained carbohydrates come from indigestible plant fiber. These carbohydrates are not counted among the classic carbohydrates, which are addressed by low-carb food.

The fiber in kratom

As we mentioned in the previous paragraph, there is also fiber in the leaves of Mitragyna speciosa. Fiber is an indigestible carbohydrate that contributes to healthy digestion and the function of the entire digestive tract. The fiber content in 2g of kratom powder is somewhere slightly below 1.5 grams. But be careful, with the wrong use and dosage of kratom, you can cause constipation or other problems related to the digestive tract!

Conclusion

So we have summarized with this article kratom aka thang from a slightly different perspective than you've probably been used to. Above all, we advise you to buy kratom and products from it only from reputable sellers, because only they can guarantee you first-class quality, where the purity of kratom plays a role. Suspiciously cheap powder can contain heavy metals and pesticides, which are undesirable for our health!
