Is marijuana the same as cannabis? Let's clear it up!
Cannabis vs. Marijuana: many people think that it is a plant with psychoactive effects. What is the truth? And why can you use cannabis without fear, while marijuana is an illegal substance? In this article, you will learn when you are on the edge of the law because of cannabis.
Is marijuana the same as cannabis? Or are we talking about two different plants? If you're wondering what the differences are and don't know which substance causes a psychoactive state, don't miss this article. We will explain the main differences between marijuana and cannabis and how Czech legislation views them.
What is cannabis and what does it contain besides CBD?
Cannabis is a unique plant with a complex effect. It contains at least 540 chemical substances that are part of hemp products in a certain proportion. Why do people value cannabis so much? This plant contains cannabinoids such as CBD, CBG and THC that affect human health. Users have great experiences with cannabis and report a whole range of extraordinary effects. Why not, when over 100 cannabinoids have been identified to date!
There are several varieties of cannabis that differ in their content of cannabinoids and other substances. Among the best known are Cannabis sativa, Cannabis indica and Cannabis ruderalis. Other varieties have been bred from them, whether for recreational, medicinal or industrial purposes.
What is marijuana and why is it illegal?
Marijuana refers to products made from dried psychoactive hemp, which contains a high proportion of tetrahydrocannabinol (known as THC). Dried marijuana contains an average of 15% THC concentration. This psychotropic substance affects the mental state. Surely no one has missed that THC is illegal in the Czech Republic, while CBD and CBG can be sold without penalty.
How do individuals use marijuana?
Dried marijuana is used in a variety of ways. It can be smoked in cigarettes, pipes or cigars, and it is also used to make various snacks such as cookies. Some make tea from it or add it to tea mixes. Many people prefer vaporization, where the marijuana is heated to a certain temperature and inhaled as a vapor.
CBD and THC are like ying and yang
Simply put, technical (non-psychoactive) cannabis contains more CBD and CBG, while psychoactive cannabis (marijuana) has a higher proportion of THC. Marijuana is defined as cannabis that has more than 0,3% THC on a dry basis. Most importantly, the benefits of CBD do not change whether it comes from marijuana or hemp. However, it is important to note that all CBD products must contain less than 0,3% THC.
Cannabis with CBD and THC: How it supposedly affects our body?
Research on cannabis and marijuana suggests that cannabinoids can help with a variety of health problems. They mainly affect the following problems:
- Illness
- Help with opioid withdrawal
- Anxiety
- Epilepsy
- Glaucoma
- Inflammatory bowel disease
- Irritable bowel syndrome
- Symptoms of HIV/AIDS
- Chemotherapy-related nausea and vomiting
- Multiple sclerosis
- Movement disorders in Tourette syndrome
- Post-traumatic stress disorder
- Sleep problems
- Cancer and tumors
Are hemp CBD products without THC (un)safe?
Hemp CBD products without THC are considered safe as cannabidiol is not on the list of banned substances. But to be sure, buy CBD products from verified sellers or in our e-shop, where we guarantee the quality and purity of the products. However, in overdose, this cannabis substance can have side effects such as mood swings, decreased appetite, drowsiness, diarrhea or nausea.
Is marijuana (un)safe?
THC in marijuana can be tricky, scientists say. On the one hand, it helps alleviate the symptoms of specific health problems, on the other hand, it can lead to addiction, withdrawal symptoms, impaired concentration behind the wheel, increased risk of injury in the elderly, the development of schizophrenia or other mental disorders, dizziness, fainting and vomiting. However, interest in CBD and other cannabis substances is still growing, mainly because of their promising effects.
Interesting fact at the end: The proportion of THC increases, the content of CBD decreases
Cannabis varieties with higher THC content generally have less CBD than regular cannabis. And this trend is becoming more pronounced. While in 1995 plants had an average of 4% THC, in 2014 it was already 12%. Conversely, the CBD content has decreased on average from 0,28% in 2001 to less than 0,15% in 2014. If you use cannabis with THC, you should be wary of modern strains with a high proportion of this psychotropic substance. Products made from higher THC plants are not legal.
