At the same time, it is also illegal to have up to 50 grams of marijuana. The deregulation is welcomed by millions of German cannabis growers. The most popular beer festival in the world takes place at the turn of September and October. We are talking about the famous Oktoberfest, which attracts millions of lovers of the golden drink every year. There would be nothing so special about this tradition except for the immeasurable amount of alcoholic beverage consumed.

However, at first it seemed that it would be a completely different vintage thanks to the legalization of marijuana in Germany! Who among cannabis lovers would pass up the opportunity to smoke a joint with impunity with a tramp, right? However, if you don't want to expose yourself to a hefty fine, you should refrain from doing this. Let's leave aside the fact that the combination of cannabis and alcohol is inappropriate for this time.

Rather, let's focus on why you can't light a quill at the biggest beer festival!

The Bavarian government argues for the protection of public health

The upcoming year of Oktoberfest should be in the same spirit as previous years, despite the fact that from 1.4. In 2024, THC was removed from the list of addictive substances in Germany. The Bavarian authorities do not want the consumption of cannabis in public. According to the Bavarian Minister of Health, Judith Gerlach, one of the main reasons is to protect public health, especially children and adolescents.

Ban on THC smoking in public spaces

For that reason, Bavaria has resorted to the proposal to ban the consumption of cannabis at public festivals (including the biggest one), but also in a number of other public spaces, such as parks, swimming pools or the gardens of pubs and cafes, where "classic" smoking is normally allowed. A few days ago, the German press agency reported about it. Behind this step is the conservative leadership of the government in Munich, which itself had strong reservations against the nationwide legalization of THC.

So it seems that, at least for this year, we have no choice but to simply forgive ourselves for smoking marijuana at the most famous beer festival in the Bavarian stronghold. In addition to already expensive tickets and high beer prices, this trip could become dramatically more expensive thanks to a hefty fine. Think about it!
